The color of the urine and its clarity, acidity (pH), and smell are significant.

The color, turbidity, and acidity of the urine are relevant to all of us. Still, in patients with chronic diseases of the kidneys and liver, you will often find significant deviations from the desired state.

Urine is usually sterile; its color should be light yellow and clear. Dark urine may indicate dehydration or poor filtration of the kidneys. Urinary tract infections most often cause turbid urine. Foamy urine may indicate the presence of ammonia in the urine (due to the weakening of the liver) or protein in the urine, resulting from impaired renal filtration capacity. Urine has a very acidic pH of 5.5 or below, usually indicating a digestive system with unbalanced intestinal flora. Urine with a pungent smell may indicate poor kidney and liver functions.
