The color, turbidity, and acidity of urine are relevant to everyone. Still, in patients with chronic diseases of the kidneys and liver, significant deviations from the desired state are often found.
Urine is usually sterile; its color should be light yellow and clear. Dark urine may indicate dehydration or poor filtration of the kidneys. Urinary tract infections most often cause turbid urine. Foamy urine may indicate the presence of ammonia (due to the weakening of the liver) or protein in the urine, resulting from impaired renal filtration capacity. Urine has a very acidic pH of 5.5 or below, usually indicating a digestive system with unbalanced intestinal flora. Urine with a pungent smell may indicate poor kidney and liver functions.
