Medicinal leeches may be effective in treating non-healing wounds of diabetes patients.

Medicinal leeches may significantly improve the healing of wounds originating from pressure and necrosis wounds, characteristic of diabetics in severe conditions. The leeches release potent enzymes that prevent blood clotting in the affected area. Sucking the blood improves blood and lymph circulation, removes toxins that have accumulated in the contaminated area, and thus helps the area's recovery. At the same time, it should be emphasized that this is only symptomatic treatment; diabetes recovery requires a complete dietary change, lifestyle change, and mechanical cleansing of the liver, gallbladder, intestines, and kidneys.
