The gallbladder's role is to store the bile and release it when needed into the duodenum, mainly to digest and emulsify fatty foods. Blockage of the gallbladder violates the acid-base balance in the gut and affects the entire immune system. The most common symptoms are constipation, flatulence, nail or vaginal fungus, (in women) headaches, sinusitis, cough, and general weakness due to a load on the immune system. In acute situations, inflammation of the gallbladder causes sharp pain. Gallbladder infections are prevalent in women due to fluctuations in female sex hormones. (Pregnancies, births, birth control pills, phytoestrogen diet)
