A blood test (from a vein) called a GFR, or an estimate called an eGFR, gives the doctor a relatively reliable measure of kidney function status. The test indicates the percentage of kidney function. Indices of 60 and below usually indicate chronic kidney disease. The eGFR index is a calculated index the doctor has to perform manually.
