There are departments where a stethoscope is more frequently used, especially in departments related to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. I appreciate that those who wrap the stethoscope around their necks (I did not examine the subject in depth) are similar to pilots who wear flight wings on the uniform - a status symbol! The doctor's gown usually has a large pocket that the stethoscope can fit in quite easily.
