The traumatic issues that cause illness and addictions are subconscious, which psychologists cannot penetrate using standard techniques.

Routine psychological treatment is often unable to penetrate the subconscious Mind. The approach to the subconscious Mind is deliberately locked. The paradox is that problems we are aware of, residing in the conscious, are solvable even if they are traumatic. The techniques that allow intrusion into the consciousness are meditation, hypnosis, and self-psychoanalysis, practices that do not have enough emphasis in the West.
