Severe and prolonged chronic diseases damage body image, self-confidence, and mood and, over time, also hurt the ego. Although I was not confined to a wheelchair like you, I was physically disabled due to my liver cirrhosis, so I completely understand and sympathize with your feelings. To me, the loss of ego is not necessarily the problem but the depression accompanying it. I recommend you familiarize yourself with the Kubler-Ross model, also known as the five stages of grief. The model explains the behavior of personal loss, typical of chronic patients. I must emphasize to you that MS is not an incurable disease! I recommend you read the article in the attached link.
