From my experience, patients on the brink of death, including cancer patients, are occasionally in deep meditation.

As someone on the brink of death from liver cirrhosis (HCV) for years, I can testify that I was in intermittent meditation. Meditation does not involve sitting on a mattress in an oriental way, similar to yoga classes! The meditative state is intended for self-defense by amplifying intuition and telepathy. Dying patients can see things that healthy people cannot.
