Inflammation vs. Infection. (Often confused.)

Theoretical issues regarding CHD patients. Patients with chronic heart diseases often suffer from inflammation, which is not the result of a pathogenic infection.

Infection results from the thrive of pathogens (Bacteria, viruses, parasites). Inflammation is the immune system's reaction to the destruction of cells in our body. Of course, the definition of inflammation is much broader than infection, which usually produces an inflammatory response.
