Inflammation vs. Infection. (Often confused.)

Theoretical issues regarding autoimmune patients.

Infection is the result of pathogens thriving. (Bacteria, viruses, parasites) Inflammation is the immune system's reaction to the destruction of cells in our body. The definition of inflammation is, of course, much broader than that of infection, which usually produces an inflammatory response.

"Inflammation - is a short or continuous immune response caused by temporary or permanent cell damage intended to rehabilitate the damaged tissue."

"Physical pain - is a short or continuous alarm sensation caused by temporary or permanent cell damage (above a certain threshold) in tissue with sensory nerves (nociceptors)." Pain is a part of the self-defense mechanism.
