Most addicts deny themselves and their environment that they are addicted! Denial is the first stage in the Kubler-Ross model (which explains the behavior of personal loss.) Without accepting that it is necessary to be cured of the addiction, entering the discipline required for successful rehab is impossible.

The five stages of the Kübler-Ross model are Denial, Anger, Bargaining (Only applicable in life-threatening situations), Depression, and Acceptance.
