Discussion: When critically ill patients are treated concurrently with conventional and self-healing medicine, the information must be transparent. It is mandatory to determine a responsible coordinating factor.

I witnessed a lung cancer patient torn between traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The recommendations seemed to contradict each other. The patient had neither the emotional capacity nor the knowledge to decide! Patient duty requires objective counseling, especially in life-threatening situations. Joint coordination and guidance between the conventional physician and the self-healing therapist are needed for the patient's benefit. The methods are complementary and should not compete with each other.
