Should doctors recommend self-healing (alternative) therapies in cases where conventional medicine fails to cure chronic diseases?

Today, few physicians refer patients to hospital wards and private clinics that treat them using alternative medicine for self-healing. However, this is usually a matter of the physician's initiative and not a binding worldview, with only the patient's well-being in front of the physician's eyes. If medicine had a philosophy (as one would expect it to happen), the question would be redundant - the preferred direction would be clear.
