Is radioactive iodine treatment for Graves' disease to reduce thyroid hormones' secretion a recommended form of therapy?

Graves' disease drug treatment is often violent, including radioactive iodine screening to reduce hormone production. Sometimes, the damage done by the therapy causes hormonal excess and hormone deficiency while causing irreversible damage to the gland. It is not a desirable way of treatment. The human body hats violence!
