To what extent are chronic COPD patients willing to try alternative therapies (medicine for self-healing)?

COPD patients first turn to conventional medicine; having not found a satisfactory solution, they seek alternative therapies in self-healing medicine. The tremendous growth in alternative therapies stems from the inadequate results of modern medicine in curing COPD. In life-threatening situations, patients tend not to seek alternative treatments. There is social and environmental pressure, as well as from the attending doctors. I call this phenomenon the fear effect.
