Inflammation vs. Infection. (Regarding COPD patients)

Allergy is a prominent example typical in COPD patients, where inflammations occur without pathogens due to the body's mistaken reaction to foreign bodies that pose no real threat.

Infection is the result of pathogens thriving (Bacteria, viruses, parasites). Inflammation is the immune system's reaction to the destruction of cells in our body. Of course, the definition of inflammation is much broader than that of infection, which usually produces an inflammatory response.
