In chronic liver patients, nail fungus and recurrent vaginal fungal infections in women often reflect a chronic fungal infection in the gastrointestinal tract.

In patients with chronic liver diseases, it is expected that the intestinal flora will not be balanced since there is not enough production of bile fluid (a robust chemical base) in the absence of lubrication of the intestines and contradiction of the acidity that comes from the stomach. Various pathogens and fungi thrive.

The intestinal flora is most likely unbalanced in patients with chronic liver disease. This is due to the irregular flow of bile into the duodenum. Without bile, the intestines become acidic, allowing pathogens to thrive in the digestive tract. Nail fungus is not just a matter of hygiene in swimming pools and damp places that contact the feet but is mainly a symptom of an unbalanced intestinal flora and very acidic intestines.
